What the Noise Is Telling You
Match the sound to the list. Most noisy PCs fit one of these seven.
- A roar that rises when the PC works hard. The fans are running flat out because heat cannot escape. Dust is the usual reason.
- Rattling or grinding. A fan bearing is worn, or a cable is touching the blades.
- Clicking or ticking. If it comes from a hard drive, the drive is failing. Back up your files now.
- A high-pitched whine or buzz under load. Coil whine from the graphics card or power supply. Irritating, but usually harmless.
- Beeps when you switch on. The motherboard is reporting a fault found during its POST.
- Gurgling or bubbling. Air in a liquid cooler, or a pump that is starting to fail.
- A steady hum or vibration. A loose side panel, drive mount or case foot resonating with a fan.
Finding Where the Noise Comes From
- Noise that appears only in games is coming from the graphics card’s fans.
- Noise from the top rear of the case is usually the power supply or the exhaust fan beside it.
- Noise low down at the front is usually a hard drive or an intake fan.
- Noise that changes when you press on the side panel is vibration, not a failing part.
- Noise that is there from the moment you switch on, and never changes, is a fan with a worn bearing.
- Noise that comes and goes with heat points to dust and dried thermal paste.
Noisy PC: Safe Checks to Try First
Always switch off and unplug before opening the case.
- Note when it happens. At start-up, at idle, or only under load. This alone narrows it to one or two parts.
- Look for a cable against a fan. A stray cable ticking on the blades is the easiest noise of all to fix.
- Clean the dust filters. Clogged filters make every fan work harder.
- Tighten what is loose. Side panel screws and drive mounts are common sources of hum.
- Back up if the drive is clicking. Do this before anything else, and then stop using the PC.
What not to do: do not oil a fan, and never stop a spinning fan with a finger or a pen to see if the noise stops. Oil attracts dust and wears off within weeks, and a jammed fan can burn out.
Noisy PC and Fan Replacement Costs
Diagnosis is free when you proceed with the repair, and we confirm the exact price before any work.
| Service | Price | Usual turnaround |
| Case or processor cooler fan replacement | Quoted with your diagnosis | Same day if the fan is in stock |
| Graphics card fan swap and testing | From $60 | 1โ3 days |
| Internal clean and thermal paste renewal | From $40 | Often same day |
| Power supply replacement | Quoted with your diagnosis | Same day if the part is in stock |
| Files recovered from a clicking drive | Quote after diagnosis. No recovery, no fee | Depends on the drive’s condition |
Fan prices vary with size and type, so they are quoted once we know which fan it is. A clean is often all a loud PC needs, because clear heatsinks let the fans slow down.
When a Noisy PC Should Not Be Left
Some noises are a nuisance. These ones are a warning.
- A clicking hard drive. It can fail completely at any time, taking your files with it.
- A grinding fan. It is close to seizing, and whatever it cools will overheat when it stops.
- Noise followed by shutdowns. The PC is already overheating and switching itself off to survive.
- Buzzing with a burning smell. Unplug it. This is the power supply failing.
- A gurgling cooler with rising temperatures. The pump is on its way out, and a processor without cooling overheats in minutes.
Why Little India Customers Bring Noisy PCs to Us
Quiet is the result of finding the right part, not replacing all of them.
The exact source found
We run the PC with each fan checked in turn, so the part that gets replaced is the one that was making the noise.
The fan, not the whole part
A graphics card or cooler with a worn fan usually needs only the fan, which costs a fraction of a new one.
Quiet and cool afterwards
The PC is run under load after the work, to confirm it is both quieter and at a sensible temperature.
Price agreed first
You hear what is wrong and what it costs before anything is fitted. No fix means no fee on repairs.

Little India Computer Repair FAQ
Yes. Budget PC Singapore is at Bugis Street #CFL A08, two stops from Little India MRT on the Downtown Line. The shop is open daily from 11am to 8pm.
It depends on the size and type of fan, so it is quoted with your diagnosis. A graphics card fan swap with testing starts from $60, and an internal clean starts from $40.
Usually dust blocking the airflow, a fan that has started to fail, or a program working the processor hard in the background. If the noise began overnight, a failing fan is the most likely cause.
It is if it comes from a hard drive. Clicking means the drive is failing mechanically, so back up your files and stop using it. A click from a cable touching a fan is harmless and easy to fix.
No. Coil whine is electrical noise from the graphics card or power supply under load, and it does not damage anything. If it is new and comes with crashes, have the power supply checked.
Usually, yes. The fans can be swapped without replacing the card, which costs far less. Graphics card fan swaps with testing start from $60.
Usually. Once the heatsinks are clear and the thermal paste is renewed, the fans do not need to spin as fast to keep the PC cool.
The same day when a suitable fan is in stock. If one has to be ordered, the PC is normally ready within 1โ3 days.
