The RTX 3070 launched back in 2020, so it’s fair to ask: is it still worth buying in 2026? Short answer — at the right price, it’s one of the best value GPUs you can put in a budget build. Here’s the honest breakdown.
The performance reality
The RTX 3070 still trades blows with much newer mid-range cards — TechPowerUp’s benchmarks placed it at RTX 2080 Ti level at launch, and that class of performance remains firmly mid-range-plus today. It comfortably delivers 144+ FPS in esports titles (Valorant, CS2, Apex) at 1080p, and handles AAA games at 1440p high settings. With DLSS enabled — which every RTX card supports — it punches even higher. For the games most people in Singapore actually play, it’s more GPU than they need.
The price argument
New mid-range cards with comparable performance still cost $500–700 for the card alone. A complete, tested RTX 3070 system — CPU, RAM, SSD, branded PSU, Windows 11 — can be had for $800–850 from our gaming lineup. That’s an entire PC for barely more than a new GPU by itself.
What are the real limitations?
Honesty time. The 3070’s 8GB of VRAM is the main constraint: a handful of 2025–2026 AAA releases at max settings with ray tracing can exceed it at 1440p, forcing you to drop textures one notch. It also lacks the frame-generation feature of RTX 40/50 series DLSS. Neither matters for esports or 1080p gaming; both matter a little if you insist on maxed-out settings in the newest releases.
Should you worry about buying used?
The risk with used GPUs isn’t age — it’s unknown history and no recourse. Verdict
